Architrave 31

From the Editors...

With last year's edition being the thirtieth anniversary of Architrave, there was a heavy emphasis on the reinvention of our publication. So, with Architrave 31, we are bouncing off that edition and introducing the future of Architrave. Moreover, the future of architecture.

Within the last century, a staggering amount of technological progress has been made. With the invention of the telephone, passenger planes, and cars now reaching speeds that would make your ancestors vomit, it's difficult to rationalize as to why construction technologies have remained relatively stagnant. Despite this, architects are constantly pushing the limits of building technologies and we are consistently reimagining what can be possible. However, these feats are done in service of the constraints set by modern construction technology.

"Until the mechanization of building is in the service of creative architecture and not creative architecture in the service of mechanization... we will have no great architecture"

- Frank Lloyd Wright

For Architrave 31 we are inspired by those who are attempting to revolutionize the construction industry and those who are challenging what the future of architecture means. Our team plans to add to the conversation also. In order to do this, we intend this year to set a precedent for future issues of Architrave and include a journalistic approach rather than the usual summarization of the University of Florida's curriculum. We are planning to interview speakers that we invite to the university and put a spotlight on those who have done exceptional work for sustainability within the program. Our team is incredibly excited to incorporate these new ideas and to, hopefully, set the tone for the future of Architrave. We hope to present all of these ideas to you come the Spring of 2024 and we are grateful for all of your support. Architrave would not have lasted for thirty years without readers such as yourself.

Sincerely,

Architrave 31
